William A. Cilley, 68, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 in his home after an illness. He was the husband of Anita (Monica) Cilley and a retired science teacher for the Mendon-Upton Regional School District.
Mr. Cilley was born in Winchendon, a son of the late H. Norman and Florence (Perham) Cilley. He graduated from Barre High School in 1959 and the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY in 1963. He sailed many years for the Moore McCormick Lines, ending with a rank of first mate. After leaving sailing upon his marriage, he earned a teaching degree from Framingham State College and a Masters in Education from Worcester State. He taught at Nipmuc Regional High School for 30 years and was the science department head when he retired in 2001. He also was a part-time police officer for the Town of Upton and Cub Master of Pack 132 for many years.
In addition to his wife of 38 years, he leaves two sons, William D. Cilley and his wife Meghan of Northbridge, and Christopher J. Cilley and his wife Carrie of Upton; siblings Beatrice Stem of Shrewsbury, Rev. Norman Cilley and his wife Nadine of Auburndale, FL, Donald Cilley and his wife Paula of Cheshire, CT, Paul Cilley and his wife Nancy of Barre, and Mildred Metcalfe of Barre; and three grandchildren, Monica and Nicole Cilley of Upton and Reese Cilley of Northbridge.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 11 a.m.
in the funeral home at 45 Main Street, Upton.
