Wilbur P. Fiske

Wilbur P. Fiske, 77, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta, ME. He was born on May 17, 1932 in Worcester, a son of the late Reuben and Alice (Potter) Fiske. He grew up in Upton, attended local schools, and was a 1954 graduate of M.I.T. with a B.S. in Engineering. While at M.I.T. he became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Mr. Fiske was a captain in the U.S. Air Force and worked in Research and Development at Hanscom Air Force Base. He worked most of his career in sales and marketing in the mid Atlantic and northeast for Warren Petroleum, based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was very active in several town government positions wherever he lived. He was a member of the Chemists Club of New York City, the Newtown, CT Rotary Club, and the Damariscotta-Newcastle Rotary Club for many years from which he was the recipient of two Paul Harris Awards. A member of the Damariscotta River Association, he was a loyal Boston Red Sox fan, matchbook cover collector, avid reader, and especially loved to travel with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Hersey) Fiske of Damariscotta; one daughter, Lisa Fiske Bradshaw and her husband John of Nashua, NH; two sons, Eric Potter Fiske and his wife Tammie of Middlebury, CT, and Kirk B. Fiske of Waterbury, CT; a brother, Dr. Richard A. Fiske and his wife Stasia of Redding, CA; and four grandchildren, Kristen Joerger of New York, NY, Stephanie Joerger of Nashua, and Catherine and Ethan Fiske of Middlebury, CT.

Service Details

A memorial service was held Monday, June 15, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, in Newcastle, ME, with the Rev. Frank C. Strasburger officiating.

Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton on August 1st.
