Vernon R. Taylor, 76, a former long-time resident of Upton, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 in Milford Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. His wife of 35 years, Ruth A. (Barnes) Taylor, died in 1999.
Mr. Taylor was born in Milford, the son of the late Lee P. and Nettie F. (Hartling) Taylor. He had lived in Upton for over 40 years before moving to Draper Place in Hopedale a year ago. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a past commander of the George L. Wood VFW Post in Upton and had previously held all other offices leading up to commander.
He worked as a driver for Hopedale Coal & Ice for 40 years, retiring in 1993. After retirement, he worked for Lisa's Transportation in Milford as a school bus driver for special needs students for several years.
He leaves two daughters, Cindy Currier and her husband Vince of West Dennis, and Dale Hirst of Marshfield; four stepchildren, William J. Griffith, Cheryl A. Simmons, Sally R. Alberto and her husband Michael, and Debbe Craib and her husband Richard, all of Milford; one brother, Richard Taylor of Haines City, FL; three sisters, Lillian Thompson of Rutland, Dottie Cooper of Mendon, and Evelyn Allen of Upton; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home at 45 Main Street, Upton.
Burial with military honors will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, West Upton.
A calling hour at the funeral home Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. just prior to the service.
