Retired Upton Police Sgt. Samuel E. "Tinker" Aldrich, 84, died Thursday, May 16, 2013 in the University of Mass. Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after a long period of declining health. He was the husband of Ann L. (Borden) Aldrich.
Sam was born in Upton, the son of the late Alfred and Carrie (Walker) Aldrich, and was a lifelong resident. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked at the former Draper Corporation in Hopedale before becoming an Upton police officer. He served with the Upton Police Department for 27 years, retiring as Sergeant in 1990. He also served the Town of Upton as a Water-Sewer Commissioner and Town Hall custodian for several years. He had been active in the former Upton United Methodist Church, where he was Financial Secretary, sang in the choir, and worked numerous church suppers. Additionally, he worked as a custodian for the Registry of Motor Vehicles and was a noted chicken barbecue and pig roast cook whose efforts helped to raise money for graduating classes and other local organizations. He was a devoted family man who loved his children and grandchildren above all else.
In addition to his wife of nearly 54 years, he leaves two daughters, Sharon Aldrich-Coburn and her husband Harry of Upton, and Susan Aldrich-Lovejoy of Leesburg, FL; a sister, Frances Palmer and her husband Fred of Uxbridge; five grandchildren, Sean Aldrich and his wife Laura of Hopedale, Patrick Aldrich and his wife Chrissy of Blackstone, Gregory Aldrich and his wife Jill of Bethel, ME, Justin Coburn of Milford, and Tyler Coburn of Upton; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Richard and Ronald Aldrich; four brothers, Sonny, Chuck, David, and Roy Aldrich; and three sisters-in-law, Mary, Claire, and Betty Aldrich.

Service Details
Following cremation, a memorial service
will be held at noon on Thursday, May 23rd,
in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton.
