Robert C. Humes

Robert C. Humes, 83, of Upton, died late Monday, April 9, 2012, in Beaumont Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Northbridge after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Jane M. (Leger) Humes.

Mr. Humes was born in Worcester, a son of the late Ralph and Gertrude (Young) Humes, and had lived in Upton most of his life. He was a graduate of Worcester Trade High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. A central office technician with NE Telephone and then AT&T, he retired from the phone company in 1991 after 38 years of service.

A deacon and long-time member of the United Parish of Upton, he faithfully maintained the parish's tape ministry for many years. He was also a member of the Marshall-Leland American Legion Post in Upton, the Korean War Veterans in Worcester, and the Upton Republican Town Committee. He had previously been active with the Upton Boy Scouts, Kiwanis Club, and Bicentennial Committee, and had served on the Upton Housing Authority.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he leaves one son, Robert C. Humes, Jr. and his companion Dawn Foley of Upton; two daughters, Deborah LeBlanc and her husband Richard of West Boylston and Donna Humes of Upton; his brother, Richard Humes of Upton; and two grandchildren, Gavin Humes and Jennifer LeBlanc. He was also the father of the late Patricia Humes, who died in 1980 at age 17, and the brother of the late Beverly Humes.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the United Parish Food Pantry, Box 382, Upton 01568.

Service Details

Funeral services Friday, April 13, at 10 a.m.
in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton,
with the Rev. Jan Gregory-Charpentier, pastor of the United Parish of Upton, officiating.

Burial to follow with military honors in Lakeview Cemetery.

Calling hours Thursday, April 12, from 6 to 8 p.m.
