Robert J. Foley, Sr., 59, of Upton, died early Sunday, February 27, 2005, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. The manager of general arrangements at Babcock Power/Riley Power, Inc. of Worcester, he was the husband of Paula A. (Robbins) Foley.
Mr. Foley was born in Worcester, a son of the late John F. and Margaret (Phillips) Foley. He grew up in Worcester, where he was a 1964 graduate of North High School, and had lived in Upton since 1972. Beginning his career with the former Riley Stoker in 1967, he was also a 1974 graduate of Worcester Junior College and a 1979 graduate of Central New England College of Technology, earning a degree in mechanical engineering. He served with Company B, 3rd Battalion, 1st Engineer Training Brigade of the National Guard for several years.
A communicant of Holy Angels Parish, he was a softball coach for the Upton Youth Club in the early 1980s. He also was one of the first emergency medical technicians for Upton's ambulance service and was a volunteer firefighter with the Upton Fire Company from 1975 to 1980. He had been active with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
In addition to his wife of 35 years; he leaves one son, Robert J. Foley, Jr. and his companion Tracy Parsons of Mashpee; three daughters, Kathleen Woodin and her husband Robert of Upton, Dawn Foley and her companion Robert Humes, Jr. of Upton, and Jacqueline Foley and her companion Michael Kelley of Franklin; a brother, Bruce Foley of Leicester; one grandson, Gavin Humes of Upton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass Thursday, March 3 at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, Upton.
Burial in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.
