Richard F. Rosenberger, 84, of Mendon, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at home after a long battle with cancer. He leaves his wife of 54 years, Edith M. (Gagnon) Rosenberger; a daughter, Heidi J. Wheeler and her husband Gary of Mendon; one son, Richard K. Rosenberger and his wife Theresa of Hopedale; seven grandchildren, Gary Wheeler, Jr., Ashley, Kassandra, and Jillian Wheeler, and Nykolas, Derrick, and Cameron Rosenberger; and a great-granddaughter, Brienna Wheeler. His youngest son, Hans F. Rosenberger, died in a tragic accident in 1988 at the age of 24.
Mr. Rosenberger was born in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, the son of the late Richard M. and Johanna (Schillinger) Rosenberger. His sister, Hedwig E. Hofmann, predeceased him in 1999.
He was educated in Germany and graduated as a mechanical engineer from the Maschinenbau Hochschule in Frankfurt, Germany before he migrated to Canada in 1952. He came to the U.S. from Canada on a previously issued quota and became a U.S. citizen in 1962.
After working at Worcester County Institution for Savings in 1955, Mr. Rosenberger began his career as a mechanical engineer for various companies doing government defense work, and worked most proudly on the security gate at the White House. For 25 years, he ran an engineering consulting firm which designed a fire truck and other equipment for aircraft carriers. For the last 17 years, he worked at Home Depot in Shrewsbury, and more recently in Bellingham, using his extensive knowledge helping customers and contractors.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 24, at 10 a.m.
in the United Parish Church, Central Square, Upton.
