Rev. Thomas E. Mahoney

Rev. Thomas E. Mahoney, Jr., 87, of Shrewsbury, died on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the UMass University Memorial Hospital in Worcester due to complications from cancer.

Father Thomas E. Mahoney, Jr. was born in Gardner, a son of the late Thomas E. Sr. and Kathleen E. (McInerney) Mahoney.  He graduated from Gardner High School and began his studies for the priesthood at St. Philip Neri School, Boston.  He then studied at Our Lady of Providence Seminary, Warwick, R.I., and St. Mary Seminary, Baltimore.

He was ordained a priest on May 23, 1968, in St. Paul Cathedral by Bishop Bernard J. Flanagan.  He served the Diocese of Worcester until retiring in 2014.

He leaves a brother William J. Mahoney and his wife Claire of Williamstown, MA, an aunt Gertrude Goodwin of Lincoln, MA, a niece Kathleen Mahoney of Huntington, MA, and a nephew William J. Mahoney, Jr. of North Adams, MA.

All services will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
