Peggy A. (Rodwill) Phipps, 77, of Mendon, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at home after an illness. She was the widow of Howard F. Phipps, who died in 2016 after 57 years of marriage.
Born in Worcester, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Margaret (Daunais) Rodwill and had lived in Upton before coming to Mendon over 50 years ago. Educated at Northbridge High School, she then served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Peggy was a waitress at several area restaurants and had also worked in the Clough School cafeteria. She also served as a police matron for the Town of Mendon and as chair of the Council on Aging several years; and was a member of the Upton Grange and the Nipmuc Rod & Gun Club, where she participated in archery events and was a sharpshooter in the men's league. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and painting, and liked to travel to Florida, Utah, and Cape Cod.
She is survived by four children, Joyce J. Phipps of Mendon, Howard F. "Butch" Phipps, Jr., and his wife, Dolly, of Mendon, Charlie V. Phipps and his wife, Debra, of Mendon and Joseph T. Phipps and his wife, Wendy, of Whitinsville; and 12 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Mendon Senior Center, 62 Providence Rd., Mendon 01756.

A graveside funeral service will be held in Swandale Cemetery
in Mendon at a date and time to be announced.
