Paul D. Suorsa (The “I”), 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Upton, MA on Saturday, February 6, 2021. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer for the last 3 years. Born in Amesbury, MA on Feb 10, 1936 to parents Orvo (Boze) and Irma (Lemstrom) Suorsa of Amesbury, MA. He was happily married to his beautiful wife, Janet (Bottai) Suorsa for 44 years.
Paul played several sports at Amesbury High; who could forget when he scored the 99th point in the Amesbury vs Newburyport Thanksgiving football game in 1951? He graduated from UMass with a BSBA degree. He was the District Manager for Sears and Roebuck, New England Catalog stores for most of his career. Paul was a revered member of the Amesbury Polish club. He has loved fishing all of his life, and was an avid golfer. Paul often kept an impressive vegetable garden, and was a pretty mean joke teller. He lived all over New England throughout the years, and spent the latter part of his life traveling and living in St. Croix, the White Mountains, and up and down the west coast of Florida. Paul certainly lived an interesting and good life. He will be missed and fondly remembered by many.
Paul was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Suorsa, father, Orvo (Boze) Suorsa, mother, Irma Suorsa, and his sister and brother-in-law Sally (Suorsa) Swanson, and Gordon (Swannee) Swanson, and brother-in-law Robert Andrews. He is survived by his wife Janet Suorsa, his 5 children: daughter and son-in-law Gail and Charles Maynard, daughter and son-in-law Lauri and Robert Scally, daughter and partner Kim Reilly and Jimmy Kiley, son Corey Speechley, and daughter and partner Courtney Speechley and Mike (Z) Franzosa, his sister Laurie (Suorsa) Andrews, his brother and sister-in-law, Peter Suorsa, and Gaylene Main, his 6 grandchildren: Tara Wright, Brooke Laneau, Megan Landrau-Ramirez, Thomas Gynan, David Gynan, and Erica Scally, 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
There will be no services at this time, but a celebration of life will be planned for later in the year.
