Norma L. Taft (Brownell) Martell

January 9, 1925 — November 24, 2006

Norma L. (Brownell) Taft Martell, 81, formerly of Upton, died early Friday, November 24, 2006 in Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH, where she had resided since June. She was the widow of Gordon G. Martell, who died in 2005, and Ernest R. Taft, Jr., who died in 1973.

Mrs. Martell was born in Upton, a daughter of the late Aubrey and Alberta (Osgood) Brownell. She was a member of the Upton High School Class of 1942 and had worked in the Upton hat industry, at Draper Corp. in Hopedale, and at other local businesses, including the Woman's Store in Milford, retiring in 1989. An accomplished vocalist, she sang at Carnegie Hall and with choral groups in the area. Before moving to Ocala, FL about 18 years ago, she was a member of the former Upton Unitarian Church, where she sang in the choir.

She leaves two daughters, Sandra L. Nadeau and her husband Robert of Plaistow, NH and Diane E. Giroux and her husband Richard of Nashua, NH; one son, Donald G. Taft and his wife Susan of Northbridge; a sister, Louella Wood of Salem, OR; one stepdaughter, Judy Braz of Chatham; two stepsons, Paul and Gerry Martell of Tallahassee, FL; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Emino of Upton; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgranddaughter. Another sister, Thelma Tumolo of Upton died in 1989.

Service Details

Funeral services Tuesday, November 28, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home.

Following cremation, burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
