Nicholas M. Ball, 73, of Uxbridge, died early Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at his home after a battle with cancer. He was a retired electrical engineer.
Mr. Ball was born in Pawtucket, RI, a son of the late Nicholas and Helen M. (Hiorns) Ball. He grew up on Block Island and earned a degree in electrical engineering from Brown University. After serving stateside as a sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, he worked for Raytheon Co. for many years, retiring several years ago. He was a member and treasurer of the Marshall-Leland American Legion Post and a communicant of Holy Angels Parish in Upton, where he had lived before moving to Uxbridge about 12 years ago.
He leaves five children, Mary Bove and Michael Ball of Holden, Patrick Ball of Sterling, CT, Cynthia Channing of Northfield, and Patricia Shaw of Douglas; a sister, Connie Peto of Clinton; a brother, Richard Ball of Gretna, LA; his daughter-in-law, Michele Jackson of CT; and 7 grandchildren.
Service Details
Following cremation, a memorial Mass will be celebrated in
St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 151 Mendon St., Upton,
at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 26.
Burial will be on Block Island at a later date.
Calling hours at the funeral home are from 9 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral Mass.
