BEDFORD - Muriel O. (Phelps) Braverman Pedersen, 72, died Thursday, December 7, 2006 in Emerson Hospital in Concord after a brief illness. She was the wife of Kenneth M. Pedersen.
Mrs. Pedersen was born in Medford, the daughter of the late Hobart S. and Ruby O. (Kerr) Phelps. She grew up in Somerville, where she was a graduate of Somerville High School, and had lived in Bedford for 51 years.
She worked for Boston Federal Savings Bank in Lexington and Sallie Mae in Waltham, retiring in 1997. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Bedford, the Sons of Norway, and a life member of the Bedford Historical Society. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, soap operas, feeding and watching wildlife from her Bedford home, and traveling with the Bedford Council on Aging. An accomplished pianist and ballerina, she had passed the audition to be an alternate for the Radio City Rockettes in her youth.
In addition to her husband of 12 years, she leaves two sons, Wayne R. Braverman of Bedford and his fiance, Kathleen Benjamin of Rockland, and Paul A. Braverman and his wife Robyn of Fremont, CA; one daughter, Diane S. Gemmell and her husband William of Hackensack, NJ; and four grandchildren, Samantha Braverman of Daytona Beach, FL, Christopher Gemmell of Somerville, Jessica Afshar and her husband Suraj of Lowell, and Matthew Gemmell of Ashland, OR. She also leaves three stepsons, Kenneth M. Pedersen, Jr. of Upton, Kevin G. Pedersen of Somerville, and Dennis W. Pedersen of New Ipswich, NH; and nine step-grandchildren.
Her first husband, Lawrence Braverman, died in 1986 and another son, Edward H. Braverman, died in 1994. She was also the sister of the late Lawrence I. Phelps of Boston and Donald E. Phelps of So. Natick.
