Mary E. (Kirby) Vaccaro

January 27, 1946 — May 10, 2010

Mary E. (Kirby) Vaccaro, 64, a retired teacher and administrator in the Mendon-Upton Regional School District, died Monday, May 10, 2010 in UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester after an illness. She was the wife of Charles J. Vaccaro and a lifelong Upton resident.

Mrs. Vaccaro was born in Milford, the daughter of the late Walter J. and Shirley (Goodridge) Kirby. She was a member of the Class of 1963 of Nipmuc Regional High School, a 1967 graduate of Framingham State College, and earned a master's degree from Fitchburg State College. A teacher in the Mendon-Upton school system for 30 years, she taught in all four district schools from 1967 to 1997 and then served as Dean of Students at Miscoe Hill Middle School and Clough Elementary School, where she was an avid supporter of the DARE program, until retiring due to illness in 2006.

A communicant of Holy Angels Parish in Upton, she was also a member of the Upton Grange, the Democratic Town Committee, the Citizen's Police Academy, Advanced Academy, and the Citizen's Emergency Response Team. Her professional affiliations included the MTA, NEA, MURTA, MTRB, MA Elementary School Principals' Assoc., and the Assoc. for Supervision & Curriculum Development. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed reading, technology, photography, swimming, and word games.

In addition to her husband of 39 years, she leaves two daughters, Tracee L. Perkins and her husband Richard, and Toni M. Vaccaro; two granddaughters, Danielle and Alexandra Perkins; a brother, James Kirby and his wife Janice, all of Upton; a stepson, Scott Brueggeman and his wife Darbie of Lexington; a sister-in-law, the Rev. Jeanne Kirby of Seaford, DE; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Brueggeman of Phoenix, AZ and Sarah Brueggeman of St. Peters, MO; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late John Kirby of DE.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Upton Police Association, 30 School St., Upton 01568 for safety equipment needs, or to the Mendon-Upton Regional School District, 10 North Ave., Mendon 01756 to purchase FM systems to augment the teacher's voice for hearing impaired students.

Service Details

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15,
from the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton
with a Funeral Mass at noon in Holy Angels Church, Milford St., Upton.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
