Linda G. Filewicz, 58, of Uxbridge, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at her home with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She is the beloved wife of Robert A. “Bob” Mitchell, Jr.
Born in Worcester, she was a daughter of the late Theodore and Gail (Swenson) Sargent. She was raised in Sutton and was a graduate of Fanning Trade High School in Worcester where she specialized in Cosmetology. In her time as a hairdresser, many families have stories of coming to Linda to help them correct their Do-It-Yourself haircuts.
After several years, Linda decided to further her education and received her Associates Degree in Occupational Therapy, finding her true passion. She was a dedicated employee at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital where she worked as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant, making a profound impact on her clients. However, her truest passion was being a mother. She poured her heart and soul into raising her four children.
Linda had a huge heart, a gentle soul, and great sense of humor. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, often turning a stranger into a dear friend. She saw the good in everyone and always took the opportunity to help those in need. Her laugh and smile could brighten any room.
She loved taking day trips to the White Mountains. She also loved the boardwalk at Hampton Beach, and could often be found in the boardwalk casino playing a round of Bingo. She sought “retail therapy” through shopping, finding delight in little purchases. On the weekends she could be found watching and coaching her kids’ sporting events. She savored slow mornings sitting in the sunlight in her pajamas, sipping her coffee. She had a soft spot for watching Lifetime movies alongside her husband, Bob. And most of all, Linda cherished her time spent with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four children, Alicia Cooksey and her husband Tyler of Auburn, Adam Filewicz and his wife Katie of Auburn, Julie Ceffalo and her husband Anthony of Auburn, and Stephen Filewicz of Worcester; her grandchildren, Eleanor, William, Calvin, Mila, Hannah, Victoria, Thomas, and Sophia; her sister, Thea Sargent Lambert; former husband and longtime friend, Marek Filewicz; several nieces and nephews; her best friends Patti and Danielle; and the staff at Advocates who are like family.
Linda is predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Gail, and her brother Theodore “Teddy” Sargent.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Advocates for their loving care and support given to Linda. Linda’s family would also like to thank the nurses and staff of Salmon Hospice for their care, comfort, and compassion during a challenging time.
Her funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, January 6, in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in All Faiths Cemetery, Worcester.
Calling hours are from 3 to 6 P.M. on Sunday, January 5, in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church.
