Kenneth J. Laucis

August 14, 1955 — August 12, 2019

Upton

Kenneth J. “Kenny” Laucis, 63, a lifetime Upton resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family after a long illness.  He is the beloved husband of 39 years to Jeanette M. (Palmer) Laucis.

Born in Worcester on August 14, 1955, a son of the late Vitie A. and Irene M. (Kozel) Laucis, he was raised and educated in Upton and was a graduate of the Blackstone Valley Technical high School.  Mr. Laucis had been employed as an engineer for the Bose Corporation for the past 13 years.

In 1980, Ken married Jeanette and became an amazing parent to her two children, Kelly and David, before having their daughter, April, together.

Ken was an easy going and positive guy, known for the huge, festive parties that he and Jeanette loved to host. On many occasions, much of Upton, and beyond, could be found in their backyard pool. Cousins reminisce about the good times had there and remember the events as being “professional parties”. Ken loved to cook and was known for his pig roasts, ceviche or the famous chili he’d pass out to his brothers and brothers-in-law.  Even when cancer took away his ability to eat, Ken continued to find joy in cooking for others and was known to travel with pig roast in tow.

Kenny loved to travel and to bring Jeanette on “mystery rides.” Always adventurous or romantic, Ken knew how to make Jeanette’s day. Hunting, fishing and photography were also favorite past times that Ken enjoyed with his brothers and friends. He taught his grandsons and granddaughter to fish and loved to talk to them about tactics and offer tips. The grandkids were always well prepared with endless, much adored fishing gifts from Ken.

Those who knew Ken well know that he seemed to know everything about everything. He was a brilliant man who could offer advice and guidance on endless topics, could engineer just about anything, and had a gift for woodworking.  Most remarkable, however, was his humble ways. Always a listener, never a boaster, Ken was as good at taking advice as he was at giving it. Ken’s quiet, yet immensely loving nature will be missed by so many.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his three children, Kelly A. Hurd and her husband Ian, of Worcester, David P. Chaves and his wife Sue, of Moosup, CT, and April H. Laucis of Framingham; four grandchildren, George Hurd, Charlie Hurd, Zander Chaves, and Eliana Chaves; four siblings, William Laucis of Ninety Six, SC, Judy Lavallee of Upton, James Laucis of Upton, and Donna Jordan of Upton.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 20 in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, Inc. 45 Main Street, Upton, Andrew D. Pickering-Director.  Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, August 19, from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks that a contribution be made in Ken’s name to Randy Sigler’s Fishing Camp in Swampscott, MA, please make check payable to Randy Sigler, Sigler Guide Service, 1 Peabody Ln, Marblehead, MA 01945 and note “Ken Laucis”  Funds will provide children whose families would normally not be able to afford camp with the opportunity to learn to deep sea fish. Scholarships for the fishing camp will be named in honor of Ken.
