Kathleen J. "Kay" (Horgan) Maynard

Kathleen J. "Kay" (Horgan) Maynard, 93, of Grafton, died early Monday, November 13, 2006 in Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough after a period of declining health. She was the widow of Robert E. Maynard, who died in March after 67 years of marriage.
Mrs. Maynard was born in Worcester, one of ten children of the late Daniel P. and Ellen J. (Somers) Horgan. She was an honors graduate of Worcester Classical High School, where she played varsity tennis, and a 1935 graduate of Simmons College in Boston. She and her family lived in Mendon and then in Falmouth for a time before settling in Upton for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Maynard retired to Dennis in 1979 and had lived in Grafton since 1998.
A teacher for 17 years, Mrs. Maynard taught at Grafton High School and then at Becker Junior College In Worcester. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Parish in Upton and had served as secretary to the Upton Board of Assessors and Board of Selectmen. Kay also served as chair of the Upton School Committee and was the first chair of the Mendon-Upton Regional School Committee. She previously worked in several office and bookkeeping positions, including several years running the office of the former Mendon Airport. She also was a cub scout den mother, chairman of a local Red Cross drive, and enjoyed sailing, golf, tennis, and skiing.
She leaves two sons, Robert E. Maynard, Jr. and his wife Judy of Grafton, and Jeff E. Maynard and his wife Sarah of Jackson, NH; a sister, Mary Spicer of Grafton; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late Peter S. Maynard of Dennis, who died in 1996.

Burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton.

Funeral services Wednesday, November 15, 2006 from the funeral home, starting at 9 a.m. with a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, Milford Street, Upton.Burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton.
