John A. Saucier

John A. Saucier, 80, died Friday, March 9, 2007, in Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester following an illness. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Catherine (Bruce) Saucier; a son, Stephen J. Saucier and his wife Shirley of Millbury; three daughters, Annette E. Richards and her husband Don of Upton, Marie F. McMahon and her husband Joe of Duluth, GA, and Suzanne E. Irons and her husband Bill of Mendon; three brothers, Richard A. Saucier of Mankato, MN, Alfred R. Saucier of NC, and Edward R. Saucier of Worcester; two sisters, Claire Parkos of Moodus, CT, and June C. Allen of Mendon; 16 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Mr. Saucier was born in Bristol, CT, a son of Alfred and Elizabeth (Spoonhauer) Saucier. He grew up in Connecticut and had lived in Upton for 61 years. He quit high school to join the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving with the 143rd Seabees. Following the war, he served six years in the Naval Reserve. He earned his GED at the age of 39, and also attended Purdue University.

Mr. Saucier was an electrician, at Coughlin Electric Co. in Worcester for 35 years, retiring in 1989. He was a communicant of Holy Angels Parish in Upton where he sang in the choir. He was a life member, past commander, and former quartermaster of George L. Wood VFW Post #5594 and the Marshall Leland American Legion Post 173 in Upton. He belonged to the IBEW, Local #96 in Worcester, and he was a former reserve police officer for the town of Upton. His interests included bowling, playing cards, umpiring youth baseball and softball, and he helped found the Upton Youth Club in the 1960s.

Service Details

Funeral services Wednesday, March 14, 2007 from the funeral home at 45 Main Street, Upton, with a funeral mass at 10 AM in Holy Angels Church, 1 Milford Street, Upton.
Burial to follow with military honors in Lakeview Cemetery.
Calling Hours at the funeral home Tuesday, March 13, 2007, from 2 to 6 PM.
