John D. Rose

John Dennison Rose, 76, of Yulee, FL and formerly of Newton, Needham, Dover, and Holden, MA, died October 30, 2012 at University of Florida & Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL, after an acute illness of short duration. He was a retired Massachusetts State Capitol Police Officer, who served at the State House in Boston, MA, until he retired after twenty-five years of civil service. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Jones) Rose, with whom he was married for 48 years.

Mr. Rose was born in Boston, MA, the son of the late George H. and Alice A. (Gordon) Rose Anderson. He attended Newton Junior College. He also served as an MP with the 101st Massachusetts National Guard, and he managed a family cleaning business for thirty years. He and his family moved to Florida in 2009.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Robin Bogosh and her husband the Rev. Christopher Bogosh and a grandson, Noah Bogosh, all of Yulee, FL; and a son, Jay Rose and his wife Karem Toledo Rose of Yulee, FL and Houston, TX. He also leaves a sister, Lois Watson and her husband Robert of Cornelius, NC; a niece Heather O'Brien and her husband John and their two children of Greensboro, NC; a niece Krista Pruitt and her husband Doug and their two children of Huntersville, NC; a sister-in-law, Nancy Wilga and her husband Peter of Franklin, MA; a nephew, Craig Wilga and his wife DarylAnne of Douglas, MA; and a niece, Christi Wilga of Foxboro, MA. In addition, he leaves his granddaughters Kayla Michele Rose and Amber Alyson Rose and their mother Ann Michele Rose, all of Falmouth, ME and a cousin Bruce Williams. He was also the cousin of the late Marilyn Nihil, Estelle Duncan, and John Mellas.

Mr. Rose devoted his life to his family. He enjoyed playing sports, watching his New England sports teams, and was an avid gardener. He will be missed by family, friends, and his devoted pets.

Service Details

Private graveside services will be held in the Jones family lot at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Harwich Port, MA at the convenience of the family.
