John J. Moriarty

John J. "Jack" Moriarty, 89, of Mendon, died late Sunday, February 7, 2016 in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Jeanette (Belliveau) Moriarty.

Jack was born in Boston, the son of the late James and Virginia (Bellefleur) Moriarty, and was a 1943 graduate of Boston English High School. A WWII Navy veteran, he was a radioman and gunner on the destroyer USS Perkins in the Pacific Theater, and was present in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender. He was employed as a steel worker at New England High Carbon Wire in Millbury for 35 years and then worked at Bay State Abrasives in Westboro before retiring in 1987.

He lived in Mendon since 1950, where he was a part-time police officer on the Mendon Police force for many years and served on the Mendon Housing Authority as it built the town's elderly housing. He was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors, the NRA, and the Elks.

In addition to his wife of 62 years, he leaves three sons, David of Uxbridge, Brian of Upton, and John of Pascoag, RI; two daughters, Jacqueline Moriarty and Ticia Low, both of Mendon; eight grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Service Details

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m.
in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton.

Burial with military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, North Main St., Upton.

A calling hour at the funeral home will be from 10 to 11 a.m.,
prior to the service on Thursday.
