Joan Marie Aia

Our hearts are broken to announce the passing of our dear Joan Marie Aia, 73, a resident of Whitinsville, and formerly of Upton, on Sunday, May 5th, 2024.

She was born in Somerville, MA, on May 30th, 1950, the daughter of the late Henry and Mildred “Millie” (Bergeron) Kelly. Joan attended Somerville High School, raised her four children, and during her life enjoyed working in the hospitality industry.

Joan loved fishing, traveling, bingo and cherished time spent with her family.

She is survived by her partner Paul Russell, her brother Paul Kelly and sister Rita Hilt, her four children Lisa and her husband Tim Spaulding of Waterboro, Maine, Michelle and her husband Joseph Forgione of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Michael and his wife Brina Aia of Pomfret Center, Connecticut and Jenny and her husband, Kevin Perkins of Port St. Lucie, Florida. Joan is survived by her seven beloved grandchildren, Makayla and Noah Forgione, Calvin and his fiancé Savannah, Michael, Sienna, and Alessia Aia and Taegan Perkins.

She is predeceased by her late husband, Alfred Joseph Aia Jr., in 2006 and her sister Marion Strickland in 2016.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 2 to 4 P.M. in the Pickering & Son Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton, MA.  A memorial service will take place at 4 P.M. in the funeral home.

A celebration of life reception will follow the service at the George Wood VFW Post of Upton, 15 Milford St., Upton.
