PETERSHAM - James B. Seitz, 76, of Petersham and formerly of Upton, died Monday, October 22, 2007 in University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare in Worcester after a brief illness. He was a retired teamster and the husband of Cynthia R. (Sweet) Seitz, to whom he was married for 56 years.
Mr. Seitz was born in St. Cloud, MN, the son of the late James P. and Ida M. (Welch) Seitz. He had lived in Upton for 53 years until moving to Petersham three years ago. He served with the U.S. Navy on the destroyer USS Witek during the Korean Era and was in the Naval Reserves for several years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 170 and worked for P.I.E. and Branch Trucking for many years until retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Upton Police Department for a number of years and was the first full-time police sargent for the Town of Upton. He also previously served on the Board of Health and as the Upton Building Inspector. A member of the United Parish of Upton, he more recently worshipped at the Barre Congregational Church. He was also a former member of the Brothers of the Brush, an avid fisherman, and enjoyed gardening and cooking.
In addition to his wife, he leaves six children, James P. Seitz of Upton, Robert J. Seitz of Fall River, Cynthia A. Seitz-St. Louis of Cranston, RI, Donna M. Bishop of Douglas, and Michael J. Seitz and Benjamin A. Seitz, both of Petersham; three sisters, Zona L. Miller, Donna M. Haggerty, and Charlotte Schave, all of Washington State; 18 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Service Details
A memorial service will be held at noon, Saturday, October 27, in the United Parish Church, Central Square, Upton, with the Rev. Jan Gregory-Charpentier, pastor, and the Rev. Philip LaFollette, pastor of the Barre Congregational Church, officiating.
Following cremation, private burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, West Upton.
