James J. "Ponzi" Bettano, Sr., 77, of Mendon, died Sunday, January 18, 2015, in Milford Regional Medical Center. His wife of 46 years, Jerry Ann (Priode) Bettano, died in 2007.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John and Katherine (London) Bettano. He grew up in Boston and had lived in Lynn for many years before moving to Mendon 17 years ago.
Mr. Bettano was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He worked as a chef at the former Morrielli's Restaurant in Boston for more than 30 years prior to retiring. He later continued his love of cooking for people by working with his daughter-in-law at Bettano's Restaurant in Mendon. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He leaves his son, James J. Bettano, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Mendon; a brother, Roy Bettano of Wilmington; and two grandchildren, Katie and Michael Bettano. He was also predeceased by his sister, Vikki Sweeny.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24 at 12 noon
