Irving P. "Pat" O'Connor

March 15, 1920 — April 23, 2012

Irving P. "Pat" O'Connor, 92, of Hopkinton, died Monday, April 23, 2012 in Milford Regional Medical Center after an illness. He was the husband of Shirley L. (Merrill) O'Connor, who died in February 2010 after 63 years of marriage.

Mr. O'Connor was born in Braintree, MA, the son of the late Frederick T. and Georgialena E. (Lyons) O'Connor. He was a World War II veteran who served as a sergeant in the 304th Signal Company of the Army Signal Corps, spending three years in London as a high speed Morse Code radioman relaying critical command information while undergoing frequent bombing raids by the Germans.

He spent the years before his retirement working with his beloved wife building their business, Evergreen Haven Nursery of Hopkinton.

He is survived by his children, Allan O'Connor and his wife Kathy of Hopkinton, Linda Morgan-O'Connor and her husband Richard of Millbury, and Glenn O'Connor and his wife Esther of Wells River, VT; his grandchildren, Kristin Tomaso and her husband Jeff of Hopkinton, Shawn O'Connor and his wife Lisa of Sturbridge, and Lyric Morgan-O'Connor of Millbury; great-grandchildren Taleisha and Ashley Tomaso and Owen and Lucas O'Connor; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Kathy O'Connor for providing so much of Pat's care since his wife's passing, and to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the 5th floor of Milford Regional Medical Center for all their work and caring on Pat's behalf. Memorial donations may be made to the Milford Regional "End of Life Fund," 14 Prospect St., Milford, MA 01757 or to the Baypath Humane Society, 5 Rafferty Rd., Hopkinton, MA 01748, due to Pat's love of cats.
