Howard C. Weaver, Jr.

May 16, 1930 — December 20, 2021

HOPEDALE

Howard Clifton Weaver, Jr., long term resident of Hopedale, passed away on December 20, 2021, at the age of 91.  He was born on May 16, 1930 to the late Howard Weaver, Sr. and Jeanne (Bartlett) Weaver. The eldest of six children, he grew up in the small farm town of Lucas, Ohio.

At the age of 17, Howard joined the Navy and saw a bit of the world.   After his military service, he settled in San Francisco where he met his future wife, Phyllis Louise Fonda. Following marriage and the birth of their first child Jennifer, they travelled cross-country in a VW Kombi van. Eventually settling in Hopedale, a second daughter, Bridget, was soon born.  Howard was a mechanical draftsman and was employed at the Draper Corporation, often riding his bike to work, then later moved on to Corning Medical Instruments in Medfield. Howard was a talented handyman and carpenter and, being a child of the Great Depression, he saved every screw, bolt, and board and knew right where to find them when needed. He loved sailing his meticulously kept boats and found beauty in the natural world around him.  He cherished books and owned hundreds of them, spending hours reading in his Morris chair. Howard was a gentleman and was always willing to help people out.   Especially later in life, he enjoyed making people laugh. When Alzheimer’s stole his ability to find the right words, he would make funny faces to get a chuckle. Many people were so helpful and kind during Howard’s long journey with Alzheimer’s.  His last two years were spent at Cornerstone of Milford where the love and attentiveness of the wonderful staff enriched his final stage of life.

Howard leaves behind his daughters, Jennifer Weaver-Heim (and husband Scott) of Upton and Bridget Weaver of Paonia, Colorado; granddaughter Gabrielle Lyons of Hawaii; siblings David Weaver of Utah, Kenneth Weaver of Virginia, Paul (Dick) of Florida, and Arlene Beasley of Ohio and many nieces and nephews. Howard was predeceased by his wife Phyllis Weaver and sister Marta Knapp.

To honor Howards’ wishes, no service will be held.

Anyone wishing to make a donation in his memory may donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the Weaver family with arrangements.
