Howard W. Barss Iii

Howard W. Barss III, 60, of Upton and formerly of Framingham, died Sunday, March 27, 2011 in Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston after a courageous battle with cancer. A commercial construction superintendent, he worked for By Design Construction, Inc. of Bedford for the past 7 years and was the husband of Gail A. (Cardinal) Barss.

Mr. Barss was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a son of Blanche (d'Errico) Barss of Framingham and the late Howard W. Barss, Jr. He was a 1968 graduate of Framingham South High School, attended Hiram College in Ohio, and had lived in Upton since 1987. An avid sportsman and hunting dog enthusiast, he was a past president of the Mayflower German Shorthaired Pointer Club.

In addition to his wife of 38 years and his mother, he leaves one son, Michael Barss of Upton; a daughter, Kristen Weeks and her husband Jedediah of Uxbridge; a grandson, Sam Weeks of Uxbridge; one sister, Susan Lacek and her husband George of Middletown, NY; a brother, Steven Barss and his wife Susan of Ashland; a sister-in-law, Gail Barss of Framingham; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late David Barss.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to GSP Rescue, P. O. Box 5731, Wakefield, RI 02880; MSPCA, 350 So. Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130; the American Red Cross/Japan Relief Fund, 139 Main St., Cambridge, MA 02142; or to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Service Details

Funeral services Friday, April 1, 2011 at noon
at Plymouth Church, 87 Edgell Rd., Framingham.

Following cremation, private burial will be in Edgell Grove Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.
