GRAFTON - Harrison E. "Harry" Bates, Jr., 72, of Grafton, died Monday, November 14, 2005 at his home. He was a manufacturer's representative for Lawson Products of Chicago and the husband of Debra L. (Dupont) Bates.
Mr. Bates was born in Worcester, the son of the late Emma L. (Sadler) and Harrison E. Bates, Sr. He grew up in Upton and then lived in North Grafton and Whitinsville before returning to Grafton about nine years ago. He was a 1951 graduate of Grafton High School and served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
He sold nuts and bolts for Premier Industrial Corporation for 43 years until the company was sold to Lawson Products about five years ago, and continued working up until his death. He was a member of the Construction Engineers Maintenance Association and Guiding Lights Lodge, AF & AM. An avid NASCAR fan, he also loved time spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 13 years, he leaves one daughter, Lori Evans of Duxbury; a stepson, Todd Landry of Worcester, a sister, Shirley L. Felix of North Grafton, and three grandchildren.
