Harold A. Bates

Harold A. Bates, 87, a lifelong resident of Upton, died early Tuesday, December 3, 2013 in Beaumont Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough after a period of declining health.
Mr. Bates was born in Upton, one of ten children of Daniel H. and Ina M. (Pond) Bates. He worked as a custodian, retiring in 1990 from Polyform Co. in Rockdale, where he had worked 18 years. He had previously worked at the Knowlton and Kartiganer hat companies in West Upton, and then at Stylon Co. in Milford for 20 years.
He leaves two sisters, Vivian Grimley of Auburn and Arlene Consoletti of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. A brother, Oscar Bates of Upton, died on December 1.
The family extends thanks to the staff of Beaumont and Salmon VNA & Hospice for their care. Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to the Upton Ambulance Fund, Box 29, Upton 01568.

Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be from 10 to 11 a.m.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 5, at 11 a.m.in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.
