Gertrude Ruth (Ramsey) Dean

March 27, 1920 — September 23, 2006

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL - Gertrude R. (Ramsey) Dean, 86, formerly of Upton, died Saturday, September 23, 2006 in Ocean View Nursing Home in New Smyrna Beach after a period of declining health. She was the widow of George A. Dean, Sr., who died in 2002 after 60 years of marriage.

Mrs. Dean was born in Shrewsbury, one of 15 children of Harry and Ruth (Powell) Ramsey. She lived in Upton for many years before moving to Florida in 1989. She worked as a stitcher at the former Kartiganer Hat Company in West Upton for many years and then for Valpey-Fisher Corp. in Hopkinton before retiring about 20 years ago. She had been a member of the United Parish of Upton and enjoyed gardening and home improvements.

She leaves four children, George A. "Pep" Dean, Jr. and his wife Margie, and Fred Dean, all of New Smyrna Beach; Paul Dean and his wife Colleen of Port Charlotte, FL; and Joy Bell of Chelmsford; one sister, Susan Eccleston of Northbridge; nine grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of the late Harry, Artie, Bill, David, Charlie, Bob, Eddie, Donald, Jim, and Ernie Ramsey, Louise Howe, Dottie Erickson, and Betty Bouthiette.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Upton Ambulance Fund, P. O. Box 29, or to the Upton Bloomer Girls, P. O. Box 121, both Upton 01568.

Service Details

Funeral services Wednesday, September 27, 2006 at 10 a.m.
in the funeral home at 45 Main Street, Upton, with the
Rev. Jan Gregory-Charpentier, pastor of the United Parish of Upton, officiating.
Burial in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton.

Calling hours at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
