George K. Tinker, 94, of Fort Collins, CO and formerly of Newton and Upton, MA, and Port St. Lucie, FL, died Sunday, May 16, 2010. He was the husband of the late Catherine (Shea) Tinker, who died in 1973, and Christine (Heald) Schug Tinker, who died in 2006.
Mr. Tinker was born in the Roslindale section of Boston on January 22, 1916, the son of the late George K. and Margaret (Flinn) Tinker. He was a machinist with the New Haven Railroad, the Boston Herald, and the Boston Globe.
George came from a musical family. His mother was a concert violinist who performed with the New York Symphony, and he had a light baritone voice and sang in the church choir. In his younger days, he and his first wife, Catherine, a pianist, often performed at weddings and other church functions. Their signature song was "Because."
He leaves three sons, Peter Tinker of New York City, NY, Paul Tinker of Plymouth, MA, and George Tinker of Oakland, CA; a stepson, Ric Schug of Loveland, CO; grandsons Michael and Kevin Tinker; and great-grandchildren Chloe and Benjamin Tinker.
Service Details
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 24,
from the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St., Upton,
with a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, Milford St., Upton.
Burial will follow in the Tinker family lot in
St. Paul Cemetery in Arlington, MA.
