UPTON - Fred M. "Mort" Hebb, 67, of Upton, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at his home after a year-long battle with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was a retired truck driver, a long-time Upton police officer, and the husband of Carol A. (Roche) Hebb.
Mr. Hebb was born in New York, NY, a son of the late Ralph W. and Mary Sue (Flood) Hebb. He came to Upton during his early childhood and was a lifelong resident of the town. He was a 1957 graduate of Grafton High School and a member of the Teamsters Local 170. He worked for Rosenfeld Concrete for 18 years, retiring due to illness in June, 2004. He had previously worked for Thompson Oil Company in Upton for many years.
A part-time regular police officer for the Town of Upton for 39 years, he also served as a volunteer firefighter for several years and had been an enthusiastic participant of many fireman's musters using the Upton Fire Company's Old Niagara handtub. He was also a dedicated blood donor who was especially proud of having received a two-gallon pin for his many donations over the years.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, he leaves three children and eight grandchildren; Cheryl and Kenneth Provencher and their children Daniel and Karen of Woodstock, GA, and Cheryl's son Anthony Riccardelli of Douglas; Laura Hebb and Richard Quinn and their sons Logan and Austin of Milford; and William and Nina Hebb and their children Zackery and Shakira of Grafton and William's son, Matthew Hebb of Whitinsville. Also, one sister, Mary Goodrich of Schoharie, NY, a brother, Henry Hebb of Upton, one niece, and four nephews.
