Ernest R. "Junie" Rivers, 78, of Upton, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 in Milford Regional Medical Center after he was stricken ill at home. He was the husband of Florence E. (Drew) Rivers, to whom he was married for 57 years.
Mr. Rivers was born in Grafton, a son of the late Ernest N. and Dorothy (Gilbert) Rivers. A lifelong resident of Upton, he had served with the National Guard and then worked as a heavy equipment operator for Upton Fuel and Construction Company and Henderson Builders. He was instrumental in founding the Upton Babe Ruth League and volunteered as a coach for many years during the 1960s. A devoted grandfather, he especially enjoyed time spent taking care of his youngest grandchildren and great-grandson.
In addition to his wife; he leaves five children, Pamela Gonzales and her husband Ed of Milford, Richard Rivers and his wife Denise of Douglas, Donald Rivers and his wife Debby of Franklin, Tina Marcou and her husband Ken of Gilbertville, and Scott Rivers and his wife Michelle of Upton; a brother, Harold Rivers and his wife Lou of Yuma, AZ; a sister, Dorothy Drew and her husband Joe of Upton; ten grandchildren and a great-grandson. He was also the brother of the late Raymond, George, and Kenneth Rivers, and Katherine Dean.

Service Details
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home
at 45 Main St., Upton with Pastor Mark Marquis of Immanuel Chapel officiating.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
