Elsie J. (Adams) Craib, 96, a former long-time resident of Upton, died Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in Genesis Healthcare Center in Milford after a period of declining health. She was the widow of John E. Craib, who died in 1987.
Mrs. Craib was born in Scranton, PA, a daughter of the late Edwin and Edith (DeGrant) Adams. She graduated from Westchester University in PA, earned her master's degree from Worcester State College, and taught for 35 years in West Newbury, Hopedale, and Shrewsbury. She was active in Upton town government, having served on the Upton School Committee, the Memorial School Building Committee, the Conservation Commission, and as chair of the Upton Town Library Commission for many years. She was also past chair of the Upton American Red Cross and a past president of the former Upton District Nurse Association, the Grafton-Upton Unitarian Parish, the Hopedale Teachers Association, and the Upton Woman's Club.
She leaves two sons, John E. Craib, Jr. and his wife Emma of Woodstock, CT and Richard D. Craib and his wife Debbe of Milford; a grandson, Michael Craib of Hopedale; and a great-grandson, Tyler Craib of Mendon. She was also the sister of the late Beatrice Frey.

Service Details
Following cremation, a graveside service will be held in Maplewood Cemetery
in West Upton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2015.
