Elizabeth F. Crawford

July 16, 1945 — September 17, 2021

UPTON

Elizabeth Brune (Folkers) Crawford, 76, of Upton and formerly of Winchester, MA passed away peacefully on September 17, 2021 at her home, succumbing to natural causes after a long battle with breast cancer.  She was the beloved wife of 37 years to Christopher C. Crawford, and mother of Meredith L. (Crawford) Scaplen.

Born in Boston and raised in Winchester, MA she was the daughter of Kern E. and Margaret V.(Lambert) Folkers of Winchester, MA (both, pre-deceased). She attended The Emma Willard School, Troy, New York, and was a 1967 graduate of Denison University, Granville, Ohio.

Prior to becoming a successful homemaker, Elizabeth had been employed by The Bank of Boston  - one of the oldest in the United States, originally chartered in 1784 (defunct in 1999) - as a senior trader in their Trading Department, managing Fortune 500 clients.

She was active in many social volunteer organizations, such as The Junior League of Boston, The Junior Council of the Boston Symphony, and was an officer of The Parents’ Independent School Network, Inc. for several years; as well as non-profit organizations focused on promoting better educational opportunities for all students K-12. She also was an active and longstanding member of the Bostonian Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi, supporting its philanthropy projects.

An avid traveler, reader, and having a deep command of world issues loved a good debate. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, travelling to Europe and across the United States, as well as  vacationing with her family on Cape Cod and northern New England. Yet, what Elizabeth valued the most was being a Mom to her only daughter, guiding her to becoming an accomplished student of classical ballet. Elizabeth was truly a lover of sports and an avid baseball and football fan, rarely missing any of her favorite team’s games.

She is survived by: Christopher C. Crawford, of Upton, MA (husband), Meredith L. (Crawford) and Andrew T. Scaplen of Gorham, ME (daughter), John L. Scaplen  of Gorham, ME (grandson), David C. Scaplen of Gorham, ME (grandson). Her parents were Kern E. and Margaret L. Folkers of Winchester, MA  (both predeceased) and her brother was Donald L. Folkers of Port Clyde, ME (predeceased). She is survived by Joyce T. Davies of Port Clyde, ME (sister in law), Linda L. Bean of Port Clyde, ME (former sister in law), Janet L. Richardson of Trinidad West Indies (former sister in law), and John H. Folkers of Austin, TX (nephew) and Jennifer (Folkers) B. Muff of Spiez, Switzerland (niece).  Additional relatives include David C. and Anne C. Crawford of Raleigh, NC, Wallace F. (predeceased) and Julie W. Crawford of Des Moines, IA, Johnathan F. and Wendy B. Crawford of Milwaukee, WI; and her relative’s many children.

In place of a funeral, she will be interred at a private family ceremony in the Crawford family plot at Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit, MA in the early spring of 2022. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service during the ensuing weeks location to be determined..
