Edward L. Orff, Jr., 89, of Upton, and formerly of New York City, died Sunday, February 5, 2012 in Milford Regional Medical Center in Milford. He was the library director of the New York Public Library for 25 years, retiring in 1983.
Mr. Orff was born in Milford, a son of the late Edward L. Orff, Sr. and Elsie (Morrison) Orff. He earned bachelors and masters degrees from Columbia University and was a World War II Army veteran. He enjoyed traveling and classical music, and was a member of the Columbia University Alumni Association, the American Library Association, and the Upton Historical Society.
He leaves a sister, Joanne Deiana and her husband Burton of Venice, FL; two brothers, Richard Orff and his wife Beverly of Hopedale and Robert Orff and his wife Louise of Milford; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Donald Orff, Doris Whitney, Dorothy DeYoung, and Elaine Benoit.

Service Details
At his request, following cremation, a private graveside service will take place in Maplewood Cemetery in West Upton in the spring.
