Dr. John A. Dondero, Jr., 85, of Mendon, died Monday, March 4, 2013 in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Lillian (McGowan) Dondero, who died in 1997 after 40 years of marriage. A physician specializing in family practice, he was in private practice in North Smithfield, RI for many years, retiring in 2000.
Dr. Dondero was born in New York City, the son of the late John and Lisette (Orofino) Dondero, and had lived in Upton for 10 years before coming to Mendon in 1973. He earned undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to going into private practice, he worked at Westboro State Hospital. He was a history buff and a communicant of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.
He leaves his daughter, Mary E. Dondero of Rehoboth, and two sons, John C. Dondero of Mendon and Stephen P. Dondero of Bristol, RI.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, March 8, at 10 a.m. in
St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 151 Mendon Street, Upton.
Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Bristol, RI.
