Donald R. Rivers, 64, a longtime Upton resident, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at the Milford Regional Medical Center. He is the beloved husband to Debra Gibson-Rivers.
Born in Worcester, he was a son of the late Ernest and Florence (Drew) Rivers. He was raised and educated in Upton and was a graduate of Blackstone Valley Technical High School.
Donald proudly served in the United States Army and frequently shared stories of his travels during his time.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Rivers was employed as the lead custodian at Blackstone Valley Technical High School. He was well-known and respected within the BVT community and loved what he did.
Donald was a sports fanatic and loved to watch the Boston Bruins and Red Sox. He also enjoyed attending family gatherings, cookouts, playing horseshoes, drinking Busch beer, and staying up to date with history and military events. Don would talk history with anyone who would listen to him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Devon Daniels of Jefferson, OH, Keli Rivers of Coon Valley, WI, Tyler Rivers of Webster, and Alyson Rivers of Ashland; his siblings, Pamela Gonzales of Milford, Tina Marcou of Gilbertville, and Scott Rivers and his wife Michelle, of Upton; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by a brother, Richard Rivers and his brother-in-law, Ed Gonzales.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 PM, on Monday, February 15, in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, Inc. 45 Main Street, Upton. Facial coverings and social distancing are required while inside the funeral home and waiting to enter the funeral home. Please refrain from any physical contact with the family.
