David J. Armstrong

David J. Armstrong, of Chepachet, RI, and formerly of Upton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.  He is the beloved husband to Maureen (Ahearn) Salazar and is predeceased by his first wife Brenda (Ramsey) Armstrong, who died in 1998.

Born in Woonsocket, RI, he was the son of the late James and Doris (Lemieux) Armstrong, and was raised and educated in Mendon, Ma. He graduated from Nipmuc High School in 1965. He also graduated from Worcester Technical College.

David proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war on the USS Independence from 1968 to 1972.

Prior to retirement, David owned and operated the Armstrong Motorcycle Shop in Upton for 40 years.

He enjoyed fishing for Bass, collecting Davy Crockett cards, catching up with friends at the Wildwood Lounge, coin collecting and spending time with his family and cherished grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Corynne Armstrong and her husband John Smith, of Mendon, and Benjamin Armstrong and his wife Jill of Remerton, WA; his stepchildren, Peter Deprofio of Douglas, and Christine Arthur and her husband Sam, of Hopedale; his sisters, Jayme Armstrong of Upton and Bette Armstrong of Mendon; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 P.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St. Upton.  Military honors will take place at 4:00 P.M.

Burial will take place privately with his family.
