Dale A. Patterson, 68, of Upton, died Saturday, October 7, 2017 in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Deborah A. (Shook) Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was born in Perth, New Brunswick, Canada, a son of the late James M. and Iva G. (Gee) Patterson. He was a US Marine Corps veteran who served in Okinawa during the Vietnam War, and had lived in Framingham before coming to Upton in 1979.
Dale was a self-employed talented finish carpenter. Also, he enjoyed working on projects to improve the homes of friends and family and even most recently was finishing a triple decker doll house for his granddaughter. He enjoyed working with his hands and always had music playing while he worked. Often times he would be caught singing or whistling while he was hammering away.
Dale immensely enjoyed fishing and hunting. He would love to go fishing with friends, family, or even just a quick cast down the creek behind his house in Upton. Many times he would be seen heading out in the backyard with his fishing pole and tackle box.
Every spring, Dale would take pride in prepping his gardens. The abundance of vegetables would ripen for the picking from the summer harvest. Anyone who happened to stop by the house would be demanded to take home a bag of veggies from the garden or else!
To say Dale loved sports would be an understatement. Not only did he enjoy watching the Bruins and Patriots, he would often be found rooting for the many nieces and nephews participating at the local football, hockey, or baseball game. He was always watching the game in "the Barn" where most people would find him. The barn started off as Dale's workshop and transformed into a gathering place for all those welcome. In addition, during the warmer seasons, Dale would fire up the crematorium and watch games down by "Barn II." Most nights, family and friends would watch the fire rise over 12 feet high while stargazing and enjoying Dale's company and hospitality.
In addition to his wife of 47 years, he leaves two daughters, Dana Beauchamp and her husband Gregory of Douglas, and Tracy Patterson and her husband Thomas Burke of Sutton; a granddaughter, Sara Burke of Sutton; one brother, Keith Patterson of Medway; three sisters, Joan Patterson of Quinebaug, CT, Pamela Mulhall of Plymouth, and Donna Weidman of Ashland; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Jean Varney, James Milton Patterson, Shirley Cohen, Paul Michael Patterson, and Debra O'Connor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston 02215 (www.dana-farber.org).
