UPTON - Cagetan R. "Ketchy" Vermette, 88, of Upton, died Sunday, February 12, 2006 in the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury after an illness. His wife of 57 years, Rita R. (Lucier) Vermette, died in 2003.
Born in Armagh, Quebec, Canada, he was a son of the late Philippe and Lydia (Lantagne) Vermette. He came to the U.S. with his family at age 5 and grew up in Linwood. He was a World War II veteran who served as an airplane mechanic with the 1103rd AAF Base Unit.
Mr. Vermette was a machine operator for Whitin Machine Works and then a truck driver for Linwood Lumber for about 30 years until retiring in 1979. He later drove school buses and handicapped vans. He lived in Northbridge for many years before coming to Millhaus Apartments in Upton in 1982. He was an active volunteer at the Upton Senior Center, delivered Meals on Wheels for Tri-Valley Elder Services for many years, and was a communicant of Holy Angels Parish.
He leaves two daughters, Carol Boucher of Milford and Diane and her husband Bob Forgette of Worcester; two sons, Robert Vermette and his wife Roxanne of Southbridge and Michael Vermette of Douglas; a brother, Armand Vermette of Linwood; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Rosario, Louis, and Irene Vermette, Marie Peters, and Jean Roy.

Service Details
Funeral services Wednesday, February 15, 2006 from the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church, Milford Street, Upton.
Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
