Beatrice (Wood) Wood

Beatrice (Wood) Wood, 94, a lifelong Upton resident, died Monday evening, May 19, 2014 in Beaumont Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in Northbridge after a period of declining health. She was the widow of Norman S. Wood, Sr., who died in 1996 after 54 years of marriage.

Mrs. Wood was born in Milford, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Annie (Gerald) Wood. She was a graduate of Upton High School and the former Massachusetts State College, now the University of Massachusetts. She was a home economics teacher in the Grafton Public Schools for 23 years, retiring in 1978. A substitute teacher both before and after her teaching career in Grafton, she previously operated a private kindergarten in her home for several years.

She was a life member and past president of the Upton Woman's Club. Also a member of Worcester County chapters of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma, she had been active with the Girl Scouts for many years and was a former Cub Scout den leader.

She leaves one son, Norman S. Wood, Jr. of Northbridge; a daughter, Sarah A. "Sally" Nattinville of Garland, TX; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by another son, James C. Wood, who died in infancy in 1952, and her sisters, Lois Smith and Ruth Wood.

Service Details

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 23, at 8 p.m.
in the Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, Upton.

Burial in Lakeview Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours at the funeral home are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service.
