Barbara T. (Ciabaszewski) Hazzard

May 4, 1933 — November 10, 2015

Barbara T. (Ciabaszewski) Hazzard, 82, of Grafton, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in her home. Her husband, John S. Hazzard, Jr., died in 2003.

Mrs. Hazzard was born in Webster, the daughter of the late Anthony and Aldea (Dubeau) Ciabaszewski of Dudley and had lived at Tuckaway Farm in Grafton since 1965. She was a 1951 National Honor Society graduate of Bartlett High School in Webster, a past member of the Westboro Grange, Upton Historical Society, Westboro Congregational Church, Grafton Conservation Commission, Grafton's dog leash law and pound committee, Grafton Garden Club, Miscoe Brook Stream Team, Grafton VT anniversary committee, the Elder Group Hooked on Books, and the Friends of the Grafton Library, where she volunteered in the Down Under used book store. She was an avid environmentalist, naturalist, political activist, and gardener.

The proprietor of the Weed Lady shop at her home for 26 years, she was the author of many short stories of life in the 1930s and 1940s and at Tuckaway Farm. She was employed during her high school years by the Webster Woolworth store and as a secretary/bookkeeper at Webster Spring Co., A & M Tool & Die Co., Prest-Wheel in Oxford and Southbridge, the Westboro Chronotype and Book Corner over the years.

She leaves her sons, David Hazzard and Dale Hazzard and his wife Michelle; and a sister, Nancy Hewey and her children. Another son, Gary, died in 1977.

Service Details

At her request, Mrs. Hazzard will be cremated
and her ashes scattered at Tuckaway Farm.
